Busy Thursday

There was a lot going on at St Ninian’s today. While the Garden Gang were causing chaos- oops, sorry I mean they were dismantling the Crib, CC’s was also a hive of activity. On the menu today was a choice of not 1, not 2 but 3 delicious soups! The customers were spoilt for choice with lentil, spicy parsnip or minted pea and spinach to warm them up on a cold January day.

We are very fortunate to have such a great team of volunteers from St Ninian’s and St Clement’s.

Nativity

At the 9.30 Mass today, the children from the Children’s Liturgy group enacted the birth of Jesus in a pageant, narrated by Hannah. It was beautiful and as a parishioner said, “Brilliant today with the kids and the story of Jesus’ birth. Thanks to all. Great job.”

Our children.

This past week, children from both our Primary schools , have been preparing for Christmas and I’ve had the honour and pleasure of witnessing their performances to the community. Enjoy the attached videos!

Kindness Calendar

The children from St Ninian’s children’s liturgy group are taking part in an Advent Kindness Calendar as we travel towards Christmas. Here are the suggestions for the first week in Advent which are posted on the board at the main entrance of the church. Encourage the children on their Advent journey as they are very enthusiastic!

Stovies!

Our monthly soup and stovies deal is proving to be popular with our customers. All the vegetables we used were the produce of our church garden, tenderly nurtured by our Garden Gang.

The little we had left over, we offered as a takeaway- ideal for people living on their own.

We are very fortunate to have a great team of volunteers willing to help with the prep, serving and clearing up. Thank you!

Spring Prep!

The Garden Gang had a wee trip out today to help the children at St Ninian’s Primary School do a bit of bulb and wildflower planting! They were lovely little people and enthusiastically got mucky as they planted and scattered various bulbs, corms and seeds.

Can’t wait to see the results next spring and summer!

Here we can see Jim (who is wearing the striped top) TRYING to make sure the roots were pointing down and the shoots were pointing up 😆 It’s destined to be a very original display!

CC Update

It’s been some time since we’ve shared news about what’s happening at CC’s and in the garden. There’s always something going on every Thursday! Here’s a flavour……

The Garden

This Thursday was a beautiful Autumn day which was ideal for bulb and wild seed planting. Once again, Allison, the Community Champion from Tesco Riverside came up trumps with bulbs for us! She is a real champion! Liz and Louise didn’t waste any time in getting them in the ground.

Meanwhile, Jim and the 2 Brians worked at tidying the area at the side of the house where Storm Arwin had reeked havoc and felled a tree. This area next Spring will hopefully be full of wild flowers and a haven for bees, butterflies and other pollinators as a result of their hard work.

CC’s (our Community Cafe)

Our lunchtime customers were offered the choice of Leek and Potato or Courgette and Minted Pea soup. For ‘seconds’, a toastie or a cheese scone? Decisions, decisions….

After the food and a chat, there was an unexpected bonus when John, a new visitor to the cafe demonstrated an enjoyable gentle form of exercise.

St Clement’s Diamond Jubilee

A SPECIAL mass was held on Tuesday 25th October, in the recently renovated hall, to mark the diamond jubilee of St Clement’s RC Church in Charleston. The construction of the original church building, capable of holding 750 people, was finished in 1962 and solemnly blessed by Right Rev. William Andrew Hart, Bishop of Dunkeld on Saturday 22nd September 1962.

The Mass of thanksgiving was led by Bishop Stephen Robson who was joined by Fr Johney Raphael, the current parish priest, Monsignor Ken McBride, Fr Michael Carrie (our home grown priest) and Fr Dijo Thomas.

It was a moving ceremony attended by 50 worshippers including 5 original parishioners, staff and children from St Clément’s school, sisters from the Missionery Sisters of Charity, friends from St Ninians church and other parishes in the dioceses.
