Tesco Award

Every little blue token certainly helped us! Our parish was one of the local causes chosen by Tesco for their community award scheme and after a huge effort by all connected to St Ninian’s in amassing those little blue tokens, we came second after Shelter.

We are very grateful to Allison, the Community Champion and her team at Riverside. They are hugely supportive of us. The money will be used to buy furniture for CC’s, our community cafe in the church hall, which we run every Thursday.
The cafe is proving very popular with people making it a regular lunchtime date in their diary every week.
Throughout Lent all the money we are raising is being sent to the Turkish/Syrian Earthquake Appeal.
Huge thanks to Tesco and to our CC’s regulars. Every little donation they are making is helping us serve our local community.

Parish Orchard

As we continue our Eco Congregation journey, our Garden Gang are delighted to announce that, with the help of a grant from Scotmid, they purchased and have planted a number of fruit trees in the parish garden on the piece of grass in front of the house kitchen and garage.

The orchard consists of 2 apple trees, pear trees, blueberry bushes as well as a plum tree and 10 raspberry canes! We look forward to tasting the produce in the summer!

An amazing raffle prize has been very kindly donated to help with our fund raising! Enjoy a week, from October to April, in the Western Isles!

Win a week’s stay in a beautifully appointed 3 bedroomed bungalow in Loch Boisdale, on the Hebridean island of South Uist. It makes a convenient holiday spot especially for those who may wish to save the expense of taking the car to the Western Isles as it is very close to the Ferry! Find out more here

If you wish to buy a ticket, email ecogroupchat@gmail.com

Fund raisers!

Since our fund raising appeal was launched for the church and Rosily, (see the last post for suggestions) parishioners have rallied around amazingly! Here’s just a couple of examples of what’s been happening and it’s so fabulous to see the young ones leading the way in ‘building their fiver’!

Child with bread

Niamh made very good use of her day off school last week. She made a batch of Irish bread! It sold out very quickly after Mass today and she’s taken orders for next week! Watch out Clarks’ Bakery- you’ve got serious competition with this budding baker! To see her in action, click here

Niamh enlisted her brother to help sell the loaves
Car washing

Meanwhile, outside the church, Chandi, Niza and their families were braving the cold washing parishioners’ cars! They did a brilliant job and the Vigil parishioners will be glad to know that they will be returning next Saturday night with their buckets and sponges.

Lenten Almsgiving

Grow Your Fiver!

Raising money as a joint parish community (St Clement’s and St Ninian’s) links in really well with our Journeying Together programme. Here are some of our ideas for the next six weeks for our *Lenten Almsgiving appeal and please do encourage the children to take part. They are wonderful and enthusiastic!

  • Grow your Fiver! Ask someone from the Fundraising Group for £5 after Mass or feel free to use your own £5! Do let us know what you are doing so we can celebrate your efforts on our church board!
  • Whisky Trail and Win the Gin! Pay £1 to guess where the prizes are. Posters on the board at the back of church: one bottle of whisky and one bottle of gin
  • Christmas cards and Easter activity books for sale – grab a bargain or take a bag full of cards to sell as your Grow your Fiver challenge
  • Make a cash donation for Rosily into the box at the back of Church – either anonymously or in an envelope with a message for the family
  • Contribute using the online giving page (still to be set up)

*We are raising money to support Rosily who is undergoing cancer treatment in India where medical treatment is very expensive. Though not a member of St Clement’s or St Ninian’s, she is closely related to us through family and friendship in Christ.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND EFFORTS 😊

Tidy up!

The garden gang have been busy the last few weeks with a general tidy up of the front and back gardens. The spring bulbs are fairly growing! Signs of Spring for sure!

Meanwhile, In CC’s, the soup and toasties are proving popular with our regulars. They kindly increased their contributions last Thursday when told we were sending the proceeds to the Turkey/Syria Earthquake appeal. We combined the £50 collected that day with another £50 donated by parishioners attending the after-Mass coffee/teas. Thank you!

Anne from SCIAF, on receiving our online donation, thanked us saying, “Through SCIAF’s partners, we are able to immediately reach out to those most in need. Our partners including Caritas Syria and Turkey are already there, working tirelessly to provide emergency relief where it’s needed most. With heartfelt prayers and thanks.”

The Letter

On Tuesday 21st February at 6.30 at CC’s (St Ninian’s Church hall), join us to watch The Letter, a powerful new documentary about how spiritual values unite us in the face of the planetary emergency.

After we watch the film, we’ll discuss over a cup or tea or coffee and pancakes (it is Pancake Tuesday after all!), what we can do to join the movement of people who are building a better future. For more information or to book your place please contact us

Watch the trailer of The Letter and share the invitation to this community screening with your friends.

Garden Update

Today the Garden Gang were busy doing the first Mary Garden tidy up of 2023. It was lovely to see the shoots appearing from the spring bulbs, which made up for some of the plants that we lost due to the freezing winter temperatures.

Our little robin pal was there as always, feasting on biscuit crumbs.

If anyone has seen Winter Watch this week you will know how important old and dead wood is to the mini beasts and small mammals who make a meal of the fungus growing on it – so important for the circle of life! Imagine how pleased we were to find the log (that a child might sit on at Children’s Liturgy!) covered in some essential beastie food.
