A case study has been compiled by Local Energy Scotland which gives details of the recent upgrades to St Ninian’s church.
It discusses the background of the project, technologies used and the funding granted, amongst other things. It is an interesting read and highlights the huge strides the church is making to become greener.
We are very grateful to Jim Hampton for the amount of work he has put into this.
Today the children celebrated our Mother Mary with a lovely contribution during Mass. They distributed flowers to the ladies in the congregation and laid a ring of flowers at the foot of the statue in the Mary Garden. The children did a wonderful job and we are very proud of them. We would like to say thank you to Sister Christy Paul and community for providing the beautiful outfits, to Father Andrew for his part in making it run so smoothly and to Colette because, without her wonderful singing voice, these things would never be quite so special.
Winter is over, we hope, so ‘stovies, no more!’ Thursday past, saw the return of our very popular monthly afternoon tea which is always fully subscribed. We are very fortunate that we have a wonderful group of volunteers, willing to give up their time, to prepare and serve our lovely customers.
This weekend sees the end of our fundraising efforts for Lent. There’s still time to make a donation by taking a guess at the Gin/Whisky trails, buying cards and raffle tickets or placing a donation in the box for Rosily at the back of church.
For parishioners who have taken part in the “Grow your Fiver” challenge, Louise is asking if you could please return your profits to her or in an envelope marked Grow your Fiver which can be placed in the box for Rosily. It would be great if you could write what you did on a star and stick it on the board.
Thank you so much for everyone’s efforts, it is very much appreciated and has brought some lovely community spirit too 🙂
Every little blue token certainly helped us! Our parish was one of the local causes chosen by Tesco for their community award scheme and after a huge effort by all connected to St Ninian’s in amassing those little blue tokens, we came second after Shelter.
We are very grateful to Allison, the Community Champion and her team at Riverside. They are hugely supportive of us. The money will be used to buy furniture for CC’s, our community cafe in the church hall, which we run every Thursday. The cafe is proving very popular with people making it a regular lunchtime date in their diary every week. Throughout Lent all the money we are raising is being sent to the Turkish/Syrian Earthquake Appeal. Huge thanks to Tesco and to our CC’s regulars. Every little donation they are making is helping us serve our local community.
As we continue our Eco Congregation journey, our Garden Gang are delighted to announce that, with the help of a grant from Scotmid, they purchased and have planted a number of fruit trees in the parish garden on the piece of grass in front of the house kitchen and garage.
The orchard consists of 2 apple trees, pear trees, blueberry bushes as well as a plum tree and 10 raspberry canes! We look forward to tasting the produce in the summer!
Since our fund raising appeal was launched for the church and Rosily, (see the last post for suggestions) parishioners have rallied around amazingly! Here’s just a couple of examples of what’s been happening and it’s so fabulous to see the young ones leading the way in ‘building their fiver’!
Niamh made very good use of her day off school last week. She made a batch of Irish bread! It sold out very quickly after Mass today and she’s taken orders for next week! Watch out Clarks’ Bakery- you’ve got serious competition with this budding baker! To see her in action, click here
Niamh enlisted her brother to help sell the loaves
Meanwhile, outside the church, Chandi, Niza and their families were braving the cold washing parishioners’ cars! They did a brilliant job and the Vigil parishioners will be glad to know that they will be returning next Saturday night with their buckets and sponges.
Niza and family working very hard. The boys did help too but had left for football when I took this photo.
Raising money as a joint parish community (St Clement’s and St Ninian’s) links in really well with our Journeying Together programme. Here are some of our ideas for the next six weeks for our *Lenten Almsgiving appeal and please do encourage the children to take part. They are wonderful and enthusiastic!
Grow your Fiver! Ask someone from the Fundraising Group for £5 after Mass or feel free to use your own £5! Do let us know what you are doing so we can celebrate your efforts on our church board!
Whisky Trail and Win the Gin! Pay £1 to guess where the prizes are. Posters on the board at the back of church: one bottle of whisky and one bottle of gin
Christmas cards and Easter activity books for sale – grab a bargain or take a bag full of cards to sell as your Grow your Fiver challenge
Make a cash donation for Rosily into the box at the back of Church – either anonymously or in an envelope with a message for the family
Contribute using the online giving page (still to be set up)
*We are raising money to support Rosily who is undergoing cancer treatment in India where medical treatment is very expensive. Though not a member of St Clement’s or St Ninian’s, she is closely related to us through family and friendship in Christ.
